Riga International Film Festival 2ANNAS is an independent film and audio-visual art festival that seeks out and introduces the audience to innovative modes of audio-visual communication from all over the world. The goal of the festival is to popularize European and World cinema among the Latvian audience and explore the evolution and trends of Baltic film art from a global perspective.
2ANNAS is a platform which, in addition to the traditional means of filmmaking, promotes new forms of content and expression. Our main objective is to stimulate the development of Latvian and Baltic film art by looking at the highlights of experimental and conceptual film abroad.
It has become one of the most important Baltic short film festivals over the years, and its scope is ever-growing. This year 2ANNAS festival celebrated its 20th anniversary and was proud to receive 1300 films from 70 countries for the consideration, including record-breaking amount of Latvian productions – 60.
The Cinedays Latvian short film programme consists of a selection of fiction and animation short films that have been chosen from the participants of the 2ANNAS IFF competition of 2014 & 2015. Some of whom are already internationally acclaimed, such as Castratus the Boar (Grand Prix at the Tampere Short Film Festival), All My Dead (international premiere at the Montreal Film Festival), Isle of Seals (shown at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival), and Rainy Days (ANIMASIAN Award at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Canada).
